The Baird Ancient tartan honors the historically significant Scottish Clan Baird, which has roots dating back to at least the 12th century in Aberdeenshire. Though an armigerous clan with no single recognized leader in the Court of the Lord Lyon, Clan Baird is known for its historical presence, loyalty to the Scottish crown, and association with prominent figures like the inventor of television, John Logie Baird. The Duke of Fife (or Fife Modern) tartan was designed in the late 19th century, around the 1879’s - 1889’s, by Fraser Ross & Co. of Glasgow, specifically for the wedding of Alexander Duff to HRH Princess Louise, the daughter of HM King Edward VII. This event led to the creation of the Dukedom of Fife. The tartan's design differs slightly from the modern district tartan and is noted for its connection to this royal union
